Why choose a Registered Dietitian?

Per the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Registered Dietitians (RDs) are the food and nutrition experts that have earned their title by meeting required criteria. The road to becoming an RD includes: earning a bachelor of science degree after extensive coursework in anatomy and physiology, psychology, sociology, life cycle nutrition, public health, microbiology, biochemistry, food science, metabolism, and counseling strategies. It then involves completion of an accredited dietetic internship, and passing a national registration exam. During their career RDs are required to remain informed of evidenced-based practices by completing continuing education credits. RDs are the qualified food and nutrition experts that have been adequately prepared to provide their patients, clients, and communities with the tools they need to live healthy lifestyles.

Nutrition is a way of life for Andrea. As a wife and mother to two sons, she knows how challenging it can be to find balance. That’s why she believes in lifestyle solutions that revolve around you and your family. As a practitioner, Andrea believes in individualized, patient-centered care, and will work closely with each client to achieve his or her personalized goals.  She believes in developing healthy habits – not in diets and restrictions, and on her own, follows a lifestyle that is centered around locally-grown, whole foods. She is a supporter of Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA) and local farmers’ markets, and is dedicated to promoting nutritious foods as the number one prevention for chronic disease.

She has been a Registered Dietitian since 2009, spending many years working in skilled nursing and short-term rehabilitation. She has received several awards for her contributions in dementia care and has a special interest in the prevention and management of chronic disease. Her main areas of focus are in gerontological nutrition, weight management, cardiovascular disease, and sports nutrition, and will provide the most effective medical nutrition therapy to help you reach your optimal health, reduce your disease risk, and EMPOWER you to find the best version of yourself.

From 2016-2018 Andrea served as the President, and continues to be heavily involved in the Lehigh Valley Dietetic Association, an organization that is committed to improving health in our community through evidenced-based education and advocacy. She devotes time to public policy efforts, educating federal, state and local legislators on the significance of Nutrition as prevention for chronic disease, and the importance of specialized nutrition therapy and educational programming. Recently she began volunteering with the Lehigh Valley Business Group in an effort to further give back to the community. She has taught as an adjunct instructor at both Cedar Crest College and the PA School of business, is currently pursuing certifications in weight management and sports nutrition and plans to finish her doctorate in Clinical Nutrition. She believes in continuing education to enhance her own knowledge and to bring the most up-to-date research to her clients.
